Head is the soundtrack to the film Head, the only theatrical release by the Monkees. Released in 1968 through Colgems, it was the band's sixth album. Head was the last Monkees album to feature Peter Tork until Pool It! in 1987 and the last to feature all four Monkees until 1996's Justus
Head is the sixth album of the Monkees and the soundtrack to the motion picture Head. It was originally released by Colgems Records on 1 December 1968 as COSO-5008. The album consists of six songs by the monkees, plus the spoken-word "Ditty Diego", several sound clips from the film, and a portion of the musical score by Ken Thorne.

Head is the soundtrack to the band's first and only theatrical release, Head. Showing the growing influence of Frank Zappa on the Monkees' circle (Zappa even has a cameo role as "The Critic" in the film itself), the soundtrack album intersperses the six proper songs ("Porpoise Song," "Circle Sky," "Can You Dig It?," "As We Go Along," "Daddy's Song" and "Long Title: Do I Have To Do This All Over Again?") with bits of Ken.
Head" was the Monkees sole movie, and for those who have seen the show but not the movie, it is definitely not what you're expecting, although the final episode of the show, "The Frodis Caper" starring Rip Taylor and directed by Micky Dolenz, hints at the surreal and psychedelic direction the band was moving i. I recommend the album and the film. Any soundtrack with track listings with titles like "Dandruff?," Frank Zappa and his talking cow, Jack Nicholson, Annette Funicello, and Sonny Liston has to be interesting, and is.
Famously, The Monkees were not permitted by their management to function as a working band for this album, with the group's contributions limited almost entirely to vocal tracks. Eight of the original LP's twelve tracks feature one lone Monkee singing lead vocal over instrumentation (and even backing vocals) recorded entirely by session musicians. Other tracks feature multiple Monkees singing over session players; only on the two tracks produced by Michael Nesmith does a Monkee (Peter Tork) get to play an instrument (guitar). Nesmith wrote or co-wrote these two tracks.
