Jef Gilson-Œil Vision(1963) + Jef Gilson And Malagasy-Zao(1973/2002) + Malagasy at Newport-Paris, 1973 + Hal Singer & Jef Gilson Soul Of Africa. I liked the album at Newport-Paris, 1973 more. The Best of Jef Gilson A lifetime in jazz from the illustrious French musician, producer, composer, arranger, band leader, sound engineer, music teacher, label-owner, and t par excellence!
French pianist Jef Gilson (real name Jean-François Quiévreux) came up in the '60s and played in a straight-ahead hard bop style. Notably, he featured the young violinist Jean-Luc Ponty on some early recordings. Gilson was not only a pioneer in independent production, but also an adventurous pianist and composer with a unique approach.
