Wim Sonneveld was born in Utrecht, Netherlands, to Gerrit Sonneveld and Geertruida van den Berg. In 1922, at a very young age, he lost his mother. After his time at school, where he was the class clown, he had a few unsuccessful jobs. After 702 performances of the musical My Fair Lady, since 1960, after his own club went bankrupt in 1959, with which he ‘wore out’ three Eliza Doolittles (Margriet de Groot, Dorien Mijksenaar and Jasperina de Jong) in his role as dr. Higgins, he went solo with television shows like Doe es wat, meneer Sonneveld (1962) and Blijf in Holland (1963).
My Fair Lady, recorded by "Shelly Manne & His Friends" and released in 1956 by Contemporary Records, is the first album ever made consisting entirely of jazz versions of tunes from a single Broadway musical. It was an instant hit and became one of the best-selling jazz albums of its day. Origins. They ended up filling the entire album with My Fair Lady tunes. Koenig brought in the complete score, and that evening Manne and Previn, between them, worked out the arrangements and recorded the entire album in one session, with Vinnegar providing the third "very important musical voice in the trio. com/My Fair Lady (Shelly Manne album). Comes in gatefold sleeve with single back and a 4-page 12"-format b/w booklet stapled inside.
Reissue from the mid 1960's. In the liner notes the fact is mentioned that the musical was visited by more than 750.000 people between October 4th 1960 and late November 1962. The booklet also mentions, including a picture, the awarding of a golden record for the 25.000th sold copy of the LP on September 4th 1961 as well as the fact that meanwhile a platinum record with diamonds can be awarded because of the sale of 50.000 copies.
Sleeve also mentions a stereo release (840 318 PY).
This version is almost identical to the other version, but it has white lettering on the top front instead of blue and the title is brighter red. It also comes with a sticker saying "zesde 10.000 tal" ("sixth 10.000 lot").
