Every pop artist went through an African phase in the '80s, for some reason, especially if they were British. AoN were a bit late to the party, and turned in a fine effort with "Yebo!" and "Dan Dare", but the appeal of the former is largely rooted in its basis in "Masimba Bele" by The Unknown Cases. The latter is an interesting combination of string orchestra and samples, what Dudley and Jeczalik do best, but overall it's a very tepid, mildly uplifting piece better suited to the closing credits of a tourism video than a DJ's record collection. This release in particular is a rather ill-conceived picture disc. The musical content is the same as on the regular releases, and the awkward photo of Mahlathini and the Mahotella Queens on the front side just did not make it seem stylish and interesting enough to buy. It quickly ended up in bargain bins, where I picked up two extra copies, unable to resist the collector's (hoarder's) impulse...
