Muppets: The Green Album is a cover album of twelve Muppet songs by various contemporary music artists. The album was released by Walt Disney Records on August 23, 2011 on a digipak CD and as a digital download. A music video was also produced for the album's sole single; "Muppet Show Theme Song", featuring OK Go attempting to produce their own music video until they are interrupted by the Muppets' antics.

The song "Bohemian Rhapsody", written by Freddie Mercury and originally recorded by rock band Queen for their album A Night at the Opera, has been covered by many different artists. The San Francisco Bay Area duo The Braids recorded an R&B version of "Bohemian Rhapsody" for the soundtrack to the Jon Lovitz movie High School High. It was also their debut single and became a major hit in Europe.

Rainbow Connection" is a song written by Paul Williams and Kenneth Ascher for The Muppet Movie and originally performed by Kermit the Frog. The song was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song in 1979. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Seth Rogen and Samuel L. Jackson sang part of the song for Jimmy Kimmel Live's YouTube-referencing "David After Dentist Double Rainbow Oh My God! in 3D" (2014) (YouTube). It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie - Kermit passes by a statue erected in his honor, the caption of which reads "For the lovers, the dreamers, and yo.

Produced by The Muppets Studio, this 12-song album comes out at the perfect time, when Muppets nostalgia is running high, but also when the lighter side of life is so sorely needed. One of the best Muppets songs, Rainbow Connection, spawned one of the best covers. Weezer so perfectly slides into the album, it sounds like it was theirs in the first place. Lead singer Rivers Cuomo's beautifully innocent voice even has something a little Kermy about it. Andrew Bird covers Bein' Green.

Paying tribute to the Muppets is a trickier gig than Kermit & C. s warm and fuzzy reputation might lead you to believe. Happily, the majority of artists who signed on navigate the first hazard with uncommon grace. The Green Album is a sweet and largely sincere recasting of songs from The Muppet Show and several of its cinematic spinoffs. The closest anyone comes to overmuscling the material is Brandon Saller (Atreyu) and Billy Martin’s (Good Charlotte) cover of Dr. Teeth’s Night Life (which, as one of the lesser tracks in the Muppet oeuvre, did lean toward this sort of metal-boogie in its original incarnation).

Muppets: The Green Album, a new collection of Muppet songs covered lovingly by Andrew Bird, My Morning Jacket and other artists, provides one of those reminders. Hearing it for the first time ignited a heady rush of blithesome memories and emotions I'd not recalled or felt in years. During The Muppet Show's five-year run on CBS from 1976 to 1981 - and in a half-dozen movie spin-offs - Kermit, Miss Piggy and a large cast of other beloved characters romped through a world without cynicism, where it was safe to love silly things with all your heart. OK Go kicks off the mix appropriately with a trippy, extended version of the Muppet Show theme song, the one that hails "the most sensational, inspirational, celebrational, Muppetational" show on earth.

Various Artists – Muppets: The Green Album. on August 23, 2011, 8:00am. For Kulash’s generation of 20 and thirtysomethings, Kermit, the banjo-pluckin’ amphibian who began as a discarded turquoise coat with halved ping-pong balls for eyes and went on to make green chic decades before Al Gore learned PowerPoint, is as iconic as it gets. So, it’s no surprise that OK Go, along with some of the biggest names in indie and alternative rock, eagerly contributed to Muppets: The Green Album, a collection of 12 lovingly covered Muppet classics.
