Symphony No. 2 by Gustav Mahler, known as the Resurrection Symphony, was written between 1888 and 1894, and first performed in 1895. This symphony was one of Mahler's most popular and successful works during his lifetime. It was his first major work that established his lifelong view of the beauty of afterlife and resurrection. In this large work, the composer further developed the creativity of "sound of the distance" and creating a "world of its own", aspects already seen in his First Symphony
Symphony No. 10 by Gustav Mahler was written in the summer of 1910, and was his final composition. At the time of Mahler's death the composition was substantially complete in the form of a continuous draft, but not fully elaborated or orchestrated, and thus not performable. Only the first movement is regarded as reasonably complete and performable as Mahler intended.

Symphony N. in Em - 2nd movement: Largo, arranged for Cor Anglais and Piano. in Em - 2nd movement: Largo, arranged for Piano Solo. Elgar, Edward (1857-1934) : Edward Elgar wrote in the style of the late Romantic composers, but with a distinctive English tone. Gustav Holst's "Planet Suite" is his most popular work, full of bold ideas and strong themes. Holst turned one of those themes from "Jupiter" into a Hymn Tune which is labelled "Thaxted" in hymnals and usually sung to the words "I Vow to Thee, My Country". Another Hymn tune by Holst is "Cranham" to which the Christmas carol "In the Bleak Midwinter" is sung.
Pianist Marc-André Hamelin's 2003 recording of Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 1 with Andrew Litton conducting the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra is extremely difficult to sit through. The strings of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra are strident and their intonation is questionable. The trumpet solos of Mark O'Keefe are insufficiently bright and insufficiently soulful. The interpretation of Hamelin and Litton is puerile when it's not prurient. Their phrasing in the Lento is so lubricious as to be lascivious.
