Pieta Brown (born 1973) is an American musician and singer-songwriter who has released seven albums and three EPs. She has performed with artists such as Mark Knopfler, John Prine, Amos Lee, Justin Vernon and Calexico. Brown was born in Iowa City, Iowa, United States. Her early upbringing was in Iowa. There, Brown was exposed to traditional and rural folk music through her father, singer songwriter Greg Brown. Brown spent her childhood living in 17 different residences between Iowa and Alabama.

Pieta Brown is the daughter of folksinger Greg Brown; however, she was raised principally by her mother after her parents split up when she was young. On her debut disc, she demonstrates some musical common ground with her father, along with notable differences. Like her father, Pieta Brown possesses a talent for songwriting. But while Brown the elder pens tunes that are often short story-like in nature, his daughter's work flows more like highly personal poetry.

Singer/songwriter Pieta Brown, daughter of Grammy-nominated folk musician Greg Brown, released her self-titled debut album on Iowa independent label Trailerpark Records in June 2002. With her languid delivery and ethereal style, the versatile singer built an impressive career both in the studio and on-stage. A native of Iowa City, Brown spent her formative years splitting time between her mother's house in Alabama and her father's back in Iowa.

Pieta Brown (born Iowa City, Iowa, in 1973) is an American singer and songwriter. She is daughter of American folk musician Greg Brown. After releasing the album Remember the Sun (2007), Brown caught the attention of legendary producer Don Was (Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt) and teamed up with him to make Shimmer (2009), an EP of stripped-down, just-formed original songs, hailed as particularly poignant (Boston Globe) that charted on Americana and Folk radio.

Like her father, Pieta Brown possesses a talent for songwriting. Pieta tends to address matters of the heart, be they an evocation of independence ("Without You") or a plea to strengthen a relationship ("Tell Me How").
