More albums from Patch and The Giant. Lonely This Christmas.
As I stepped into the river You left me there to drown Crawl away, crawl away To safety now. Oh, I'm better than this But your hand is a fist And a fist is all it takes Won't you break my bones And smash my swollen face. And I know your mind I see your gun There's nowhere to run. And oh, now everything's black And I'm under attack And my body is falling down Cold, I know where now Who can fill his crown. And you said hey, (hey!)
All That We Had We Stole" is the debut album from Patch & The Giant, a band who describe themselves as Alt-Folk, it's a tag that ensures an immediate comparison to Mumford & Sons. Looking beyond the immediate, a better starting point to focus on the sound would be to look at the structured textures of American Indie Rockers The Decemberists. Talented and diverse, it's eclectic stuff of the highest calibre. With each subsequent track "All We Had We Stole" reveals a little more, pulls you in and you warm to a band that you are listening to for the first time. Even subjects such as domestic violence can be overcome as the upbeat, chanting "Another Day" leads the way in overcoming adversity, Rance's brass and piano totally fitting the song, it's truly glorious.

The metaphor of dwarfs standing on the shoulders of giants (Latin: nanos gigantum humeris insidentes) expresses the meaning of "discovering truth by building on previous discoveries". This concept has been traced to the 12th century, attributed to Bernard of Chartres. Its most familiar expression in English is by Isaac Newton in 1675: "If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants.
