Somewhere in the Night" is a ballad written by Richard Kerr and lyricist Will Jennings which was a US Top 20 hit for both Helen Reddy and Barry Manilow. The first song composed by Kerr and Jennings as a team, "Somewhere in the Night" appeared on four 1975 album releases: You Are a Song by Batdorf & Rodney, Rising Sun by Yvonne Elliman, No Way to Treat a Lady by Helen Reddy released July 1975 and Kim Carnes' November 1975 eponymous album release

Some will be surprised by how conventional the other tracks on this album are and it's hard to understand why the group didn't have more commercial success at the time, when some of their tracks wouldn't sound out of place next to other 80s synth-poppers like OMD, Duran Duran or even Quarterflash (.

"Somewhere In The Night" is my favorite song of 1982, bar none! Stereo is quite the mysterious group and finding their music is a very difficult task! This being their most well known song, it's absolutely one of the best Italo Disco-styled songs ever made - and also nearly impossible to find an original pressing of, so good luck finding anything other than the mp3 nowadays! This release comes off the Carrere Records label and is not an authentic Italo Disco song, but it doesn't even matter. The robot voice and beats are exactly on the same page as Steel Mind's, "Bad Passion". Actually, I can't believe I am saying this, but it's BETTER than the damn near perfect masterpiece by Steel Mind!!! This song demonstrates why it's important to know the non-Italian labels like Carrere because they sometimes contain otherwise unknown masterpieces. The male robot voice that repeatedly shouts, "Somewhere in the night!" in this song is one of the most wicked lines I've ever heard in music.
