Purple is the fourth studio album by metal band Baroness. It was released December 18, 2015 through the band's newly founded label Abraxan Hymns. It is the first album to be released by the band following their involvement in the 2012 bus accident that left nine people injured; it is also the first album to feature new band members Nick Jost and Sebastian Thomson, playing bass/keyboards and drums respectively and the last album to feature Pete Adams before his departure from the band in 2017.
Purple is decidedly their best album, housing their best melodies and riffs they’ve ever written, fusing the softer stylings of Yellow & Green with the passionate heaviness of Red Album and Blue Record. With producer Dave Fridmann (the George Martin-esque force behind the Flaming Lips’ pinnacle albums), Baroness open their sonic palette wide open, and the results are inspiring. Baroness have come so far from their early sludge metal sound. Purple flows with progressive songcraft, from the flush grooves of the instrumental Fugue to the chunky power pop of The Iron Bell.
Baroness is an American heavy metal band from Savannah, Georgia whose original members grew up together in Lexington, Virginia. Baroness formed in mid-2003, founded by former members of the punk/metal band Johnny Welfare and the Paychecks. Purple is the fourth album from Baroness, produced by Dave Fridmann. Exclusive discount for Prime members. Purple bursts out of the gate with the opening track Morningstar, a fiery rocker with a razor-sharp main riff and a tasty harmonized guitar solo. The single Shock Me is probably the most approachable song on the album, very melodic but still tempered with the intensity that Baroness is known for. Tight interplay among the musicians here, with some nice hi-hat barking from Thomson.
BARONESS returns with its first new music in three years, as the band releases their fourth album, "Purple", on December 18 via its recently formed label, Abraxan Hymns.
