What does EP stand for. EP or Mini Album (Extended Play) – originally a record, on each side of which only 2-4 musical compositions with a total duration of sound of 15-20 minutes were placed. Initially, EP was called the 7-inch diameter vinyl record, recorded at 33⅓ RPM. This difference of speed with respect to the simple engraving at 45 RPM allowed it to have a longer duration (a maximum of 25 minutes, 12’30 per side) compared to the length of the single, whose maximum duration could not exceed 15 minutes. EPs expand in this format, which typically includes one or two songs from an artist’s latest album and a couple of other songs that may be unreleased tracks, live versions, remixes, or demo recordings. Most centrifuged EPs at 45 RPM, although some spin at the album speed of 33 1/3. EPs vs. LPs.
An extended play record, often referred to as an EP, is a musical recording that contains more tracks than a single, but is usually unqualified as an album or LP. Contemporary EPs generally contain a minimum of three tracks and maximum of six tracks, and are considered "less expensive and time-consuming" for an artist to produce than an album.
An album is more than a collection of songs. Its supposed to be a collection of songs that belong on the same medium, under the same "idea" and should be a coherent idea. If you think the 6 songs fit together, put them all on. If one song is weak and doesnt seem like it belongs there, get rid of it. do whatever you want. Bands such as Rainbow made albums like 'Rising' that had four standard length songs on one side and a couple of double length epics on the other. Then when CDs came along that could hold more information, albums started getting longer. So yeah, 6 songs can be an album, as long as the overall recording lasts longer than around half an hour, but an hour's worth of music is generaly more accepted nowadays. Our life is what our thoughts make it. ― Marcus Aurelius.
Before the arrival of the music cassettes, the world of music was dominated by EP’s and LP’s the acronyms that stood for Extended Play and Long Play respectively. An EP was a collection of songs just like an album. However, despite serving the same purpose, there are differences between an EP and an album that will be talked about in this article. Extended Play is a kind of collection of music tracks that is more than a single but falls short of a full album in the sense that it contains lesser number of tracks. It was during the 80’s that the word and the practice of EP’s became. Though original EP was a vinyl record, the concept survives even today in the form of compact Discs that contain a few of the songs or music tracks from the latest album of the artist. At times, EP’s serve as platforms for budding artists who cannot afford the full duration fees of music studios to release their albums.
Most EPs will have about 5 songs, often times these extra tracks are remixes, or instrumental versions. Not always, but sometimes. It has nothing to do with press releases, and it has nothing to do with the lengths of the songs. I have no clue what that means and I was just curious. Anonymous · 4 years ago. 0.
