The King of Rock 'n' Roll: The Complete 50's Masters is a five-disc box set compilation of the complete known studio master recordings by American singer and musician Elvis Presley during the decade of the 1950s. Issued in 1992 by RCA Records, catalog number 66050-2, it was soon followed by similar box sets covering Presley's musical output in the 1960s and 1970s.

Elvis Aaron Presley (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977), also known mononymously as Elvis, was an American singer, musician, and actor. Regarded as one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century, he is often referred to as the "King of Rock and Roll" or simply "the King"

A complete picture of Elvis' mainstream 50s releases, the songs are essential for anyone even mildly interested in popular music. The packaging here has problems.

Elvis Presley 1956 - Every concert, studio recording and important event in Elvis Presley's Life from January to December 1956. For Elvis Presley, 1956 was a year like no other. In January, he was a regional sensation, but by year's end he had become a national and international phenomenon. He made his first two albums for RCA (both million sellers), appeared on national television 11 times, signed a seven- year contract with Paramount Pictures, and stared in his first movie, Love Me Tender.

Complete your Elvis collection. This set's initial long-box release included a set of collectible stamps duplicating the record jackets from every Presley LP on RCA Victor, every single that had a picture sleeve, and most of his EP releases. The set includes a booklet with an extensive session list and discography, and a lengthy essay by Peter Guralnick. It peaked at on the album chart and was certified a gold record on August 7, 1992, by the RIAA. Further certifications were for platinum on November 20, 1992, and for double platinum on July 30, 2002.

There were some excellent releases of archival material and in 1987, on the tenth anniversary of the King's death, there was a stellar series of compilations, but most of what was released was a constant stream of recycled hits, which this box most certainly is not. This set is sharply and expertly assembled, presenting Elvis' peak as a creative and cultural force in staggering detail. to hear the kinetic energy of this lean combo create an entirely new music; anybody who doubts Elvis as an innovator need only hear this to be proven wrong. Fortunately, at no time in the '50s did he sink into the murk that enveloped him for a period in the '60s.

In one example, by the time he recorded his RCA first album, Elvis Presley, Elvis had already learned much from his work with Sam Phillips in terms of the song selections and arrangements. He brought that prior studio and touring experience to the studio and knew what he wanted the sound to be, right down to the slapback echo that heard on his major hit Heartbreak Hotel

Elvis Presley’s Death. Presley had tried to avoid drugs, but while in the army in the late 50’s, he was introduced to amphetamines. He considered them to be merely medicine, which felt more acceptable to him than street drugs. He eventually extended that same attitude to a range of other prescription drugs that he got from his personal physician, Geoge Nichopoulos. Dr. Nick kept Presley supplied with a cocktail of the amphetamines he craved and the opiates to bring him back down from those throughout the late 60’s and early 70’s

Reissue of Elvis Presley 50's recordings. Poor packaging (Cdr's and plain photocopies). The sound is OK. The official Sony 5 CD Boxset "The King of R'N'R: Complete 50's Masters" is a much better choice.
