Album · 2006 · 10 Songs. Layering Buddha - EP Robert Henke. Alaska Melting - Single. Monolake/ Robert Henke.

Robert Henke, uber-geek and musical genius, delivers what is possibly his best work to date, surpassing even his acclaimed Monolake material. which enthrall, mesmerize, frighten and hypnotize. The 10 selections on the CD are simply fractions of what are ostensibly infinitely long tracks. Upon hearing 'Layering Buddha', I wish I could complete the impossible task of listening to these pieces of music in their entirety

Robert Henke: Layering Buddha by Glenn Astarita, published on November 20, 2006. Synthesist Robert Henke celebrates the FM3 Buddha Machine on this richly ambient production that parlays the d sounds/loops into a sort of omnipresent reckoning. Henke cites the unit's imperfections, sampling rates and other processes with a great deal of depth and insight, especially for the micro-processor engineers out there. The artist extracts elongated sounds and weaves them into minimalist frameworks. Think of Brian Eno's early expansive, ambient-electronic musings, for example.

Some resemble the granular miasma of Pole, others evoke a gamelan performing in a flooded cave. The Buddha is alive in all of them. 1 Layer 001 Robert Henke 4:53. 2 Layer 002 Robert Henke 6:57. 3 Layer 003 Robert Henke 7:24. 4 Layer 004 Robert Henke 7:29. 5 Layer 005 Robert Henke 5:19. 6 Layer 006 Robert Henke 5:8. 7 Layer 007 Robert Henke 3:30. 8 Layer 008 Robert Henke 3:16. 9 Layer 009 Robert Henke 8:15. 10 Layer 010 Robert Henke 6:50

This is such a great box set. As mentioned in the note I highly recomend playing it at different speeds as well as blending two 7" together...

Holy shit! Robert Henke, uber-geek and musical genius, delivers what is possibly his best work to date, surpassing even his acclaimed Monolake material. Using loops from the Buddha Machine as his foundation, Henke sculpts soundscapes (an overused term, I know, but not for Henke...) which enthrall, mesmerize, frighten and hypnotize. The 10 selections on the CD are simply fractions of what are ostensibly infinitely long tracks. Upon hearing 'Layering Buddha', I wish I could complete the impossible task of listening to these pieces of music in their entirety. Amazing, sublime and deeply moving music which has few modern equals.
