Jessy Dixon (March 12, 1938 – September 26, 2011) was an American gospel music singer, songwriter, and pianist, with success among audiences across racial lines. He garnered seven Grammy award nominations during his career. Musicians with whom he worked include Paul Simon, Andrae Crouch, DeGarmo & Key and most recently Bill Gaither in the Homecoming series of concerts. He wrote songs for Amy Grant, Natalie Cole, Cher, and Diana Ross.

Jessy Dixon, who introduced his spirited style of gospel music to wider audiences by serving as pop singer Paul Simon's opening act, died Monday. He was 73. Miriam Dixon said her brother died Monday morning at his Chicago home. She said he had been sick but declined to provide additional details. During a more than 50-year career, Dixon wrote songs for several popular singers, including jazz and rhythm and blues singer Randy Crawford. He later wrote songs performed by Cher, Diana Ross, Natalie Cole and Amy Grant.

Singer and songwriter Jessy Dixon, 73, who helped popularize gospel music outside the United States and wrote some of the genre's most recognizable songs, died Monday at his Chicago home. His sister said he had been sick but gave no other details. Dixon later wrote songs performed by Cher, Natalie Cole and Amy Grant. In the early 1970s, he was appearing at the Newport Jazz Festival with his Jessy Dixon Singers when Paul Simon took notice. Several of the early songs Dixon wrote have become classics, including "Sit at His Feet and Be Blessed," "These Old Heavy Burdens" and "I Love to Praise His Name.
