The Choir of King’s College, Cambridge joins forces with the Britten Sinfonia, Ailish Tynan and Roderick Williams for this album of two much-loved choral works. Hymns from King’s is a collection of twenty hymn arrangements for choir and organ by Stephen Cleobury. The tracks on this album were recorded live during Evensong services in the 2014-2015 academic year, as part of the College’s regular Chapel webcasts. Bach: St John Passion

The King's College Choir is a British choir. It is considered one of today's most accomplished and renowned representatives of the great English choral tradition.

Founded in the 15th century, it ranks among the oldest of its kind, and, while originally created for singing the daily services in the college chapel, now enjoys an international tour schedule that has seen it perform all over Europe and beyond. Every Christmas Eve, millions of people tune in to watch the choir’s A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols from King’s – a service which has been continuously broadcast since 1928. Recorded in 1994, this reissue joins the group’s already extensive discography of Christmas music – recordings that have enhanced its worldwide fame and reputation

For this latest album on the Choir’s own label, Stephen Cleobury has chosen to present a selection psalms, folksongs and other exceptional works that have stood the test of time alongside some of the Choir’s contemporary favourites. Highlights include Ola Gjeilo’s setting of Ubi caritas, Antonio Lotti’s Crucifixus and James Erb’s arrangement of the much-loved American Folksong Shenandoah. The pieces we have chosen for this album reflect something, though not all, of the breadth of the Choir’s repertoire
