The Price of the Ticket is the third solo album by former Transvision Vamp lead singer Wendy James. Released in February 2016, it was written and produced by James, except for the final two tracks, which were cover versions of songs by Fred "Sonic" Smith and Bob Dylan. The album was recorded mainly in New York City, with the final two tracks being recorded in Berkeley, California to accommodate James Williamson.

In 2004 Wendy James formed a band named Racine and released 2 albums with them. Her latest album ‘The Price of the Ticket’ (which received 9/10 from XS Noize) is out now. Wendy recently took the time to have a chat with Mark Millar to talk about the new record. You have recently released your album ‘The Price of the Ticket’. Lenny Kaye is one of my all-time favourite guitarists in the world ever. He lived a couple of streets from me in Manhattan. So we met for a cup of coffee and we got on very well. So that’s how the band formed. Where was the album recorded?

The Price of a Ticket is a powerhouse of an album which is certain to please established fans of Wendy James as well as attracting some new admirers. The dynamics of this record, the peaks and troughs between roaring fury and softer, more wistful tunes showcase James’ versatility as an artist, and her dalliances with different genres and eras reinforce that eclecticism. Her assured sound coupled with perfect modernity and experimentation is what had always placed James above the rest and this newest release demonstrates it yet again.

Wendy James (born 21 January 1966) is an English singer-songwriter most notable for her work with the pop band Transvision Vamp. Born in London to Norwegian parents, James was adopted soon after birth, and left home at the age of sixteen, moving to the English seaside resort town of Brighton. There she met Nick Christian Sayer, who became her boyfriend and musical collaborator.
