Sample this album Artist (Sample). Chopin's NOCTURNES, as performed and interpreted by Maurizio Pollini, contains 19 pieces, ten on the first disc and nine on the second disc. Most of the pieces are from 4-5 minutes long. In several of M. ollini's other recordings, the sound engineers had accentuated the treble. The Chopin NOCTURNES are not as dramatic as the Polonaises or Preludes, and are not as brimming with clever tunes. One might even go so far as to propose that a recording of the NOCTURNES would mainly be of interest to the "Chopin completist.
Most of Frédéric Chopin's polonaises were written for solo piano. He wrote his first polonaise in 1817, when he was 7; his last was the Polonaise-Fantaisie of 1846, three years before his death
Chopin may have distrusted romanticism, yet no other romantic composer has worn as well. His music both stings and sings with harmonic adventurousness, together with an uncanny instinct for the geography of the keyboard.
